For the 2025 annual meeting of Ikebana International Boston Chapter #17, four Riji level teachers from the Sogetsu Massachusetts Branch, Tomoko Tanaka, Dora Lee, Kaye Vosburgh, and Joanne Caccavale demonstrated one beautiful and unique arrangement each for the nearly 50 attendees.

Kaye Vosburg’s arrangement was in a long rectangular suibans using bearded irises, allium, peonies, hosta, baptisia and Solomon seal from her garden and a dried branch; it evoked an Ohara style ‘naturalistic’ feel. Tomoko Tanaka used a spectacular large black metal container she had picked up on a recent trip to Japan that looked almost like a candle holder using Kanzan cherry, red anthurium, Japanese barberries, euonymus and bleached mulberry; the end result was large and dramatic. Dora Lee used pink, red, and white tree peonies and variegated maple branches from her garden to arrange in a beautiful ceramic container. Finally, Joanne Caccavale made a green and white arrangement using bamboo, spirea, and mums.

The event included a sumptuous buffet lunch and special memorial tributes for our two honorary members and past presidents, Masako Yatsuhashi and Mabel Nevins, who passed away in the last year. Participants enjoyed the demonstrations and tribute arrangements, the wares of three potters, and the opportunity to catch up with each other.
