2023 Tower Hill ikebana exhibition

Ikebana International, Boston Chapter #17 presented a Japanese Flower Exhibition at New England Botanic Garden, Tower Hill beginning Friday, October 13, 2023 through Sunday, October 15.
Visitors were treated to 45 beautiful floral exhibits created by 31 Ikebanists. We had 3 large displays, Joanne Caccavale, Kaye Vosburgh and Tomoko Tanaka and their students from Sogetsu school, and 41 arrangements on pedestals including 22 displays from demonstrations. We had more than 30 docents in the different areas to answer questions and direct visitors to all the displays.
Special guest, Ikenobo Visiting Professor, Naotaka Nakamura, presented a wonderful demonstration at the I. I. meeting to begin the event on Friday. Dressed in a kimono, he created eight examples of Ikenobo arrangements which were then placed on display for all to enjoy for the remainder of the weekend. Ikenobo is the oldest school of Ikebana.
On Saturday and Sunday an Ohara demonstration by Minal Akkad and 2 demonstrations from Sogetsu, Joanne and Kaye. All demonstrations were well attended and received, an average of 60 persons at each. An Ikebana workshop for children was held on Sunday afternoon. 16 students worked with bamboo and fresh flowers to create a fun free-style arrangement to take home.
A wonderful selection of Ikebana containers was sold by four potters from Ohio, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. This was a very successful show and the education and participation of the public was well executed.
